MYTHICAL BEAST LANTERNS
4-Day 3D Printing Holiday Camp

Enter the magical world of Shan Hai Jing and bring a mythical creature to life as your very own illuminated 3D sculpture.
 
In this four-day creative holiday camp, students will explore legendary creatures from Chinese mythology and reimagine them through character design, digital sculpting, 3D printing and lighting design. From cute creatures such as the Nine-Tailed Fox to bold and powerful beasts such as dragons, each student can develop a completely different design.
 
The focus is not on copying one fixed model. Students will be encouraged to create their own interpretation, combining traditional mythical elements with personal ideas, colours, shapes and personality.
 
By the end of the camp, each student will complete a unique 3D printed mythical beast lantern to take home.
 
DAY 1 — DISCOVER & DESIGN
Explore creatures from Shan Hai Jing and develop an original concept.
Students will explore:
Mythical creature references · Character design · Shape language · Sketching · Lantern structure · Light placement
Outcome:
A completed creature concept ready for 3D development.
 
DAY 2 — MODEL & PREPARE
Turn a 2D design into a three-dimensional digital model.
Students will explore:
3D modelling · Form and proportion · Surface details · Hollow structures · Light openings · Preparing files for 3D printing
Outcome:
A finished digital model prepared for printing.
 
DAY 3 — PRINT & BUILD
Watch the design become a physical object.
Students will explore:
3D printing process · Print preparation · Assembly · Sanding and finishing · Testing translucent and illuminated areas
Outcome:
A fully assembled mythical beast sculpture.
 
DAY 4 — LIGHT & BRING IT TO LIFE
Transform the sculpture into a glowing art piece.
Students will explore:
Colour design · Painting and finishing · Lighting installation · Final detailing · Presentation and photography
Outcome:
A completed Mythical Beast Lantern ready to take home.
