AI FILM LAB
From Storyboard to Screen
5-Day Creative Intensive
10:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 28 September – 2 October
Recommend Age: 9 - 16
AI Film Lab is a five-day creative filmmaking intensive where students take an original idea through the complete filmmaking process — from the first storyboard to a finished short film.
Students will explore storytelling, character and scene development, storyboarding and cinematic composition before learning how to use AI creative tools to transform their ideas and artwork into moving images.
As the week progresses, students will work together as a creative production team, learning animation, directing, editing, voice recording, music and sound design.
Rather than simply learning how to use AI tools, the course introduces students to the creative thinking behind filmmaking — how to tell a story visually, build a consistent world, communicate ideas, collaborate with others and make creative decisions from beginning to end.
By the end of the five days, students will have experienced the complete journey:
IDEA → STORY → STORYBOARD → CHARACTER → AI VISUALS → ANIMATION → TEAMWORK → EDITING → SOUND → FINAL FILM
DAY 1 — STORY & STORYBOARD
Turn an idea into a story. Every film starts with an idea.
Students begin by developing a story concept, characters and setting. They will learn the foundations of visual storytelling and discover how filmmakers break a story into scenes and individual shots. Through drawing and storyboarding, students will begin planning their own film before any AI production begins.
Students will explore:
Story Development · Character & World Building · Story Structure · Storyboarding · Shot Types · Camera Angles · Shot Planning
DAY 1 OUTCOME
A developed story concept and completed storyboard ready for production.
DAY 2 — CHARACTER & AI VISUAL CREATION
Build the world of your film.
Students begin transforming their own drawings, artwork, photographs and original ideas into a visual world for their film. They will learn how to work with AI creative tools while exploring character design, environments, composition, lighting and visual style.
An important focus will be visual consistency — learning how to keep characters, locations and the overall look of a film connected from one shot to the next.
Students will explore:
AI Image Creation · Prompt Development · Character Design · Character Consistency · Environment Design · Composition · Lighting · Key Frames
DAY 2 OUTCOME
A visual asset library containing characters, environments and key frames for the film.
DAY 3 — AI ANIMATION & FILM PRODUCTION
Bring your storyboard to life.
Now the film starts to move.
Students will transform their key frames into animated shots, experimenting with character movement, expression, action and cinematic camera movement.
They will also begin working as a creative production team, taking on different roles and learning how filmmakers collaborate to turn individual ideas into one finished production.
Students will explore:
Image-to-Video · AI Animation · Character Movement · Expression · Camera Movement · Directing · Creative Problem Solving · Team Roles & Collaboration
DAY 3 OUTCOME
A collection of animated film shots ready for editing.
DAY 4 — EDITING & POST-PRODUCTION
Turn your shots into a film.
Having a collection of beautiful shots doesn't automatically make a film.
Students will discover how editing changes the way we experience a story. They will assemble their footage on a timeline and experiment with sequencing, pacing, transitions and continuity.
Working together, each production team will begin shaping their individual shots into one complete story.
Students will explore:
Video Editing · Timeline & Sequencing · Cuts & Transitions · Pacing · Visual Continuity · Titles & Credits · Basic Colour & Visual Effects
DAY 4 OUTCOME
A complete rough cut of the team's short film.
DAY 5 — VOICE, MUSIC & FINAL FILM
Give your story its voice.
On the final day, students discover another essential part of filmmaking — sound.
They will explore dialogue, voice recording, music, atmosphere, sound effects and Foley, learning how sound can completely change the emotion of a scene.
Students will then complete their final edit, add titles and credits, and prepare their film for presentation.
Students will explore:
Voice & Dialogue · Sound Recording · Music · Sound Effects · Foley · Sound Design · Final Editing · Export & Presentation
DAY 5 OUTCOME
🎬 A COMPLETED ORIGINAL SHORT FILM
The five-day experience concludes with a Welight Film Screening, giving students the opportunity to see their finished stories come to life on screen.
